Mid-market buyout firm Next Capital has bolstered its roster of talent, hiring a former dealmaker from tech-focused sponsor Potentia Capital.

Street Talk understands Lara Ong has been lured to Next Capital as an investment director. Ong spent almost four years at the Tim Reed and Andy Gray-led Potentia, and left earlier this year around the same time partner Andrew Joyce took his leave.

Before Potentia, Ong had a four-year stint at the now-defunct Archer Capital, and also worked at Investec Australia and Barclays.

Her hire comes on the back of a solid few years for Next Capital, which was founded by John White, Patrick Elliott and Sandy Lockhart in 2005. The Sydney-based sponsor sold its artisanal bread maker Noisette to George Weston Foods in July and promoted investment director Adam Dicembre to partner.

The Noisette exit followed a deal in May to acquire a majority stake in career training group Scentia Education. The firm is also shopping its remediation specialist Enviropacific and preparing to exit a controlling stake in specialist engineering contractor Eptec.
